MONROE PLACE TOWNHOUSE

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This elegant 25-foot wide townhouse on Monroe Place in Brooklyn Heights was substantially renovated several years earlier, but the fourth floor was not included in that renovation. The prior renovation also omitted central air conditioning.

The scope of work for the top floor called for the total removal of all partitions, ceilings and floors as well as the brick rear wall. New brickwork provided wider and taller openings to accommodate the new windows and French doors. New masonry was also added to the rear yard extension to provide a walk-out deck at the fourth floor.

The new central air conditioning necessitated a pair of rooftop condensers;  a submittal to the Landmarks Preservation Commission was required to ensure that this equipment would not be visible from across the street. Great care was also taken to ensure that this equipment would not be visible from the rear yard or the new skylights.
